The Audio chain starts with the Recording. Poor recordings will be exposed by Quality equipment, so Reference tracks are useful to test your system or latest upgrade - or for pure enjoyment. Even if you have a restricted genre preference (as in my case), it is useful to listen to a wide range of musical instruments, some like Piano, very difficult to get right - with their wide frequency range and resonant characteristics.
STS are always adding to their range and 2017 sees some new additions. New Titles will be added as they become available. Stocks are limited.

Fritz de With founded STS Digital 20 years ago and he’s both an Audio enthusiast and Recording Engineer. His recording industry experience spans more than 4 decades - encompassing the ‘Bell Curves’ of Vinyl, CD and SACD.
STS employ their own unique ‘MW Coding Process’ for recording, in an effort to squeeze the very best from Studio Masters ... wherever possible, still using the Analogue (Reel to Reel) medium, for best musical sound and dynamics.
STS place great importance on 3 dimensional acoustic recorded (enviroment) space and the sound-staging of musicians within it. Transparency and clarity are also important - capturing the warmth that instruments possess, together with their natural tonal colours … but not overly clinical.

Tobias Hume – music for solo Viola da Gamba
"In any case, it was Hume’s music that lured me into the realm of the viola da gamba as a solo instrument some 20 years ago. It has been a regular part of my solo performances ever since.
This recording was made in the chapel of the Franciscan Convent in Utrecht. The recording was carried out in a fully analog fashion. The only way to really do justice to the analog process is the Vinyl record.
The analog recording technique does require that the recordings be made in one take. So this recording has absolutely no editing whatsoever. Everything you hear is exactly the way it sounded in the chapel. I don’t think Captaine Hume would have wanted it any other way. For me as a player, this involved a unparalleled concentration that felt very much like the thrill of a live concert".

Tango Extremo

Recorded LIVE on June 30th, 2017 at “De Oude Jan”, Velp. Sound engineer: Fritz de With (Sts-digital), mastering Peter Brussee (Q-point Hilversum).
Eleonore and Ralph met in 2011 at a concert venue they both frequent and have been playing together ever since. Their shared fascination for both contemporary and early music has enabled them to take a fresh look at either genre. Several composers have dedicated new work to them.
On this album they explore the field of early music. The pieces have often been written for flute and basso continuo. Here, however, they are performed in a very fragile and open manner, with only the viola da gamba covering the basso continuo part. To add to this naturalness, the album has been recorded LIVE, without edits.
